Night Emperors is a series of eight nightlife illustrations created by Rachel van der Nacht and Orson, a visual artist and a Dj, two close friends, and hopeless insomniacs. The artworks recreate nocturnal, fantasized, and chaotic door scenes, showcasing industry workers, patrons, artists, nightlife icons, and all the singular people that make the Manhattan nightlife so special.

Orson selected the people and places, while Rachel created and art directed all these nocturnal scenes that mix both her bold visual signature and Orson’s extended knowledge of nightlife. During four months of quarantine, she hand-drew more than 350 illustrations, at night. Why sleep when you can dream?
